This course is to help work site monitors by giving them the information and skills they need in order to be a successful monitor.

The mission of the
Health Practitioners' Intervention Program

is to help ensure the safety of the citizens of Virginia by providing monitoring services to impaired health care practitioners and to assist practitioners in the recovery process.


Since January 1, 1998, The Virginia Department of Health Professions has conducted the Health Practitioners' Intervention Program as an alternative and adjunct to disciplinary action for its' licensees. DHP has contracted with VCU Health System Department of Psychiatry, Division of Addiction Psychiatry to provide intake, assessment, treatment planning, treatment referral, and monitoring services to impaired health practitioners.

Code of Virginia)


HPIP is conducted by the VCU Health System Department of Psychiatry, Division of Addiction Psychiatry, under contract with the Department of Health Professions.
